To the Citizens of Wilkes County,
Today, you have entrusted me with the honor of serving as your sheriff, following in the footsteps of several distinguished leaders who have fulfilled this role before me. In fact, as shared by one of our local historians, Robert M. Willingham, I will be only the tenth sheriff to hold this position in the 150-year history of Wilkes County. It is a deeply humbling moment, and I am grateful for the confidence you have placed in me to uphold the legacy of those nine men who served before me.
As we embark on this new chapter together, I ask for your prayers and support; not only for me but also for my family, who devotedly share in my responsibilities of this role, and for each of our dedicated employees who will be with us through this transition. Your support will be essential as we work to implement the changes you have called for and that I have committed to in my campaign.
I am also pleased to announce that Retired State Trooper Brent Marxsen will be joining us as Chief. Chief Marxsen brings nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience, and his expertise will be invaluable as we restructure and strengthen your sheriff’s office to better serve our community.
Thank you again for the honor to serve you.
Sincerely,
Sheriff Elect Darrell Powers

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
